Your Policy Explained

This summary is subject to the full terms and conditions of the insurance policy and does not constitute any offer to insure or amendment to the policy. The notes contained herein do not form any part of the insurance and are issued purely for guidance information purposes. No representations are given nor implied by this information sheet.

The following is a summary of cover that is available from a Travelandinsure policy:

Cancellation and Curtailment Costs

If you have to cancel your holiday as a result of sickness or injury to yourself or that of a close family relative or business partner then this insurance will respond up to the sum insured to cover the cost of the holiday. You will need to obtain cancellation costs from the tour operator, travel agent or holiday supplier and it is very important to make sure that you advise your holiday company immediately you become aware of the need to cancel your holiday as failure to do so may have the effect of reducing your claim under the insurance. The policy will even cover you for loss of deposit with a reduced excess applicable. The policy will also respond if you have to cut short (curtail) your trip for an insured reason. A pro rata payment would be made reflecting the number of days of holiday lost. (Back to top)

Medical Costs

The policy will pay for costs incurred, subject to the limits contained within the sum insured, for all medical treatment which has been necessary as a result of actual or threatened bodily injury, sickness or death during the trip. It does not cover medical costs incurred within the UK. It will include doctors fees, hospital treatment and medication along with costs to bring you back to the UK should that be necessary. (Back to top)

Hospital and Mugging Benefit

Not Available under the Bronze Cover.
Should you have to spend time in an overseas hospital, then this benefit will help to pay for basic “additional” costs which you or your travelling companion may incur. (Back to top)

Personal Accident

Not Available under the Bronze Cover.
This section of the policy will respond if you have a serious accident and are unfortunate enough to lose the use of a limb, eye or in the event of death. For children under 16 years and adults 65 years and over, the death benefit is reduced. (Back to top)

Travel Delay

If your pre-booked public transport is delayed due to strike, riot, civil commotion, accident, mechanical breakdown, bad weather or avalanche we will pay a benefit after the first 12 hours of delay, and for every full 6 hours of delay thereafter, up to a maximum amount as detailed in the policy schedule. (Back to top)

Abandonment

Not Available under the Bronze Cover.
If, following a delay, you decide that you wish to abandon your trip then the policy will respond as per the cancellation sum insured and excess. Please note that the Abandonment option differs according to length of trip being taken. (Back to top)

Missed Departure

We will pay for additional accommodation and travel expenses if you arrive too late at the departure point in order to enable you to reach your intended overseas (or return UK) destination. The cause for the late arrival must be beyond your control and certain exclusions do exist. (Back to top)

Personal Effects & Money

Not Available under the Bronze Cover.
This travel insurance is designed to cover you for loss or damage to your personal effects taken on holiday. It is not designed to be a substitute for a full “all risks” household policy. It carries very strict limits both for valuables (as defined) and single items. It is not a “new for old” policy and will apply reasonable deductions for wear and tear. For photographic and audio equipment trade price lists will be used to establish the second hand value. You will be required to prove the value of your loss as well as provide evidence that the loss was reported to police authorities, airlines etc as applicable. You must provide written evidence, such as a police report or Property Irregularity Report (PIR). For further details please refer to the policy wording. Restrictions and exclusions do apply which are common to most travel insurance policies. (Back to top)

Delayed Baggage

Not Available under the Bronze Cover.
If your luggage is delayed for over 12 hours on your outward journey, then you will be covered up to the amount shown in the schedule for emergency items you may need to buy. You will need to keep all receipts in order to validate your claim, as well as a receipt from the carrier confirming the periods of delay of your bags. As a special arrangement, we have also been able to include an additional amount to cover your ski equipment, golf equipment and business equipment where the appropriate options have been selected at the time of purchasing the insurance. Should your bags not arrive and are deemed permanently lost by the carrier, then any amount paid under the delayed baggage section would be deducted from any final settlement for your lost luggage. (Back to top)

Passport

Not Available under the Bronze Cover.
Provided it has not been left unattended, if your passport is lost or stolen, the policy will pay for additional travel and accommodation expenses incurred in obtaining a replacement as well as the pro rata cost for the unexpired portion of the passport. This section will only respond if costs are incurred whilst abroad. (Back to top)

Personal Liability

Should you become legally liable following accidental damage to another persons property or injure another person, then the policy will provide protection up to the sums insured against any claim brought against you. It does not cover deliberate or criminal acts nor will it cover liability claims were you are contractually liable or liable under law i.e. Motor Accident or Marine Liability under a hire contract. (Back to top)

Overseas Legal Expenses

The policy will respond to legal costs incurred should you be injured or die during your trip. It does not cover you to pursue claims for breach of contract, or claims for loss of enjoyment. There are strict conditions which apply and should you need to make a claim under this section, then you are strongly advised to contact the Claims telephone service before taking any decisions. (Back to top)
